Nordic Game Jam 06 took place at the IT University, Copenhagen (ITU) January
27-29 2006. It was arranged in cooperation between IGDA Denmark, ITU, Diginet and OTEE.
8
games in 48 hours
Nordic Game Jam was held for the first time in
Copenhagen January 2006 with 40 participants primarily from the local game
industry and the IT University, but at few people from abroad had also
found their way to Copenhagen.
The participants were divided into eight
teams Friday night according to personal interest and the activity level
from there on was high: The participants created 8 playable games in 48
hours!
Theme
The theme of the workshop was to create a
prototype of a cooperative multiplayer game in one weekend. There were no
expectations concerning a final product which meant that placeholder
graphics, missing features as well as small and large bugs were to be
expected. However, the game should preferably be easy to play and
illustrate the fundamental game play.

Feedback Panel
A
panel of experts gave feedback to the teams on Sunday evening:
-
Kjartan Vidarsson, Producer at Deadline Games;
-
Tobias Sjögren, CEO Peligroso Gamnes Management;
-
Christian Badse, Editor at the Danish Broadcasting Coorporation (DR)
for the online forum SKUM and DR Interactive;
-
Jesper Juul, Assistent professor at the IT University, Copenhagen
(ITU).
The panel also functioned as a jury in the internal NGJ competition - and
declared "Pen & Paper" to be a winner. Some of the criteria which the
panel paid attention to were; the Game play-factor, the
Multiplayer-factor, the Innovative-factor, and the over all Design Appeal
as well as the possibility of further development of the games.
However,
the main purpose of the weekend was to get to know each other, have a
great time and to unfold creative talents.
